Exploring The Rocks, Sydney
The Rocks. A Place That Feels Like Time Itself.
One of my favourite parts of Sydney is The Rocks, a neighbourhood that carries the whispers of history with its cobbled streets and charming, almost cinematic beauty. It’s a place that feels timeless, where each corner seems to transport you to another era.
For me, this area is home to the best bakery and coffee spots. Though I’m no expert, my daily coffee ritual here always feels like a little moment of joy to start the day.
La Renaissance on Argyle Street is my go-to for pastries. Their palmiers, buttery ham and cheese baguettes, and artisanal pies always leave me craving more. There’s something so comforting about their simple, perfect creations. La Renaissance
Just around the corner, tucked behind George Street on Nurses Walk, is Aslan Coffee—a hidden gem where the coffee is as rich in quality as it is in flavour. Every sip feels like a hug on a sleepy morning, filling me with warmth and contentment. Aslan Coffee
And when I need something a little indulgent, Guylian Café serves up the most comforting milk hot chocolate. It’s not too rich, not too sweet—just perfect in every way. Guylian Café
There are two stops I never miss when I’m in the area:
The Fine Food Store offers a deliciously healthy lunch in a relaxed, welcoming space. The atmosphere here feels like home. The Fine Food Store
And then there’s the MCA Gift Shop, where I love to wander through their selection of books, discovering new makers and artisans. I recently found the inspiring work of sculptor and jeweller Lisa Roet. MCA Gift Shop Lisa Roet Jewellery
If you’re an artist, or simply love the art of creating, I highly recommend visiting Parkers, a cosy boutique full of handcrafted papers, brushes, and all things artistic. The air smells like creativity, and I find myself lost in the quiet allure of it all. Parkers Arts Supplies
And if you wander towards Barangaroo and beneath the bridge, allow yourself to get lost in the beauty of the heritage houses, the towering trees, and the little lanes filled with flowers, birds, and stories of their own.
