Sofia Maria Tomasella is a jewellery designer and maker with an intimate focus on craftsmanship and fine metals. Inspired by and with a deep appreciation of organic lines, natural textures and imperfect forms.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina Sofia studied at Palermo University and has a degree in fashion and textile design. Her background in bridal and evening wear translates to her jewellery through a love of all things handmade and one of a kind.

Upon relocating to Australia in 2016, Sofia immersed herself in the study of metal smithing and fine jewellery making. Her commitment extends to working with locally sourced recycled metals and responsibly sourced gemstones.

One of her greatest influences is the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, a concept derived from Buddhist teachings that centers around the acceptance and admiration of imperfection, finding beauty in the imperfect. Wabi-sabi embodies traits such as asymmetry, simplicity, modesty, intimacy, integrity, and a deep reverence for both natural objects and their inherent processes.

Having spent time in Japan, Sofia developed an even deeper appreciation for the beauty of artisanal pieces in contrast to perfectly manufactured ones. Drawing inspiration from this concept, along with her Argentinian heritage and the laid-back Australian coastal lifestyle, Sofia, coming from a family of freelance architects, found establishing her own creative business to be a natural path. She describes her designs as effortlessly elegant modern heirlooms, featuring simple fluid forms with a high-shine finish and delicate intricate details.

"A lot of detailed work goes into each and every one of my pieces, but I hope the result is simple, elegant, and understated."

Currently residing in Sydney, Australia, Sofia works from her studio in Freshwater.
