diamonds

Diamonds… I am absolutely intrigued by these natural gemstones. Especially the ‘imperfect’ ones. I thought I’d share with you some interesting information I gathered along the way.

Diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substances in the world - they can only be scratched by another diamond. This is one of the reasons they are so perfect for heirloom rings, pieces that are designed to be worn for a lifetime and be passed through generations. They really stand the test of time.

When it comes to classic white diamonds, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) grades them according to the famous 4 C's: CUT, COLOUR, CLARITY and CARAT.

This precious natural stone comes in a wide variety of colours . Pink, blue, green, yellow, brown and grey are only some of them.

Champagne diamonds are basically light brown diamonds. They are one of my favourites (along with grey ones). A bit unusual and unconventional but still neutral and timeless - they look exquisite next to yellow gold, enhancing the warmth of the piece.

They can go from light beige to dark chocolate - they are graded against the Argyle Colour Grading Scale. Its colouring is 100% natural which makes every stone different and completely unique. You can create a cluster of champagne diamonds and they will go perfectly together but still contrast creating depth within the same piece of jewellery. A very subtle and delicate contrast.

All the gemstones I choose for my designs are carefully analysed by an experienced gemologist and are sourced from reliable and ethical companies located in Australia.
